Well the snow definitely fell here in providence. I find it funny that the whole city pretty much shuts down at the first sign of winter. I thought this state was considered part of new England. News flash guys winter which means snow happens every year! It like a big surprise to everyone when we get snow. Even the mall was a ghost town!. The mall barely closes on Christmas. My boss however is a trooper and opened the cafe at 5 a.m. That's right people, she made it through the scary snow and opened the cafe to make sure the people of providence Amtrak station had their coffee and sandwiches. To my dismay however this meant I was tromping through the snow to go to work as well. It ended up being a fun day though.
Some people may turn there noses up at people that work behind a cafe counter but you underestimate what we do. There are not many people in this world that would be able to deal with hurried customers every day while maintaining a polite smile and rushing to prepare their food. Most people crack withing the first week. It may mean you have a little crazy in you to do this job but i love it. Cafes are meeting places where the young old and everything in between can enjoy. Anyone who has traveled abroad can attest to this. There is a thin line between cafe and bar in France and I'm sure other areas of Europe. I hope to one day be able to have a cafe of my own. can you guess what the name would be... ill give you a hint, it starts with pips. So keep your eyes open ladies and gentlemen because one day i promise, you will see my name in the up and coming restaurant section.

Hello fresh start! Wait is that procrastination i hear?
My name is Sarah I am finishing my last year at Johnson & Wales, work in a cafe, have a passion for cooking, and feel that it is time to make some big changes in life. With the end of yet another year and 24 creeping up in two weeks I feel as though it is time to start checking off items on my things to do by 25 list. First item, make a list of items to check off. Crap.
I miss age 16 when the biggest item on a checklist of things to do would consist of eating an entire box of oreos while watching a Molly Ringwald marathon. They were simpler times.
So to start this blog off right i am starting the checklist of things to do by this time next year. Each time I complete a check mark Ill post it and hopefully one year from now everything on the list will be done. I have hope in you 2011 that you can be far better than 2010!
So without further procrastination....

OK so 20 item is going to have to do it for now.... I'm sure there will be more to come
so know that you have an insight into my goals for 2011 let me share with you the end of 2010 and my new found frustration for the providence transportation system.
My car decided that it did not want its transmission to work anymore at the end of 2010 and is now in my back yard sitting on yes you guessed it cinder blocks. Previously to this i was enjoying my once to twice a week commutes to cape cod singing at the top of my lungs while cars passed most likely wondering if i had turrets. I have never been without a car since age 17 and let me tell you it has been a trip. I have started to get the bus system down. I was feeling confident about it until i left the house this morning at 8:20 for the 8:26 bus and halfway up the hill like a bat outta hell the bus flies by at 8:24! I'm sure the driver thought nothing of it but dammit those two minutes meant i sat on the metal bench, which in the middle of winter does not feel good on your rear for 20 minutes! And to top it off the 8:46 bus was 5 minutes late! Thank you RIPTA for making my new morning commute so interesting.
Its funny how life happens though as mad as i was about eating my now frozen bagel in the cold this morning i found out why i missed the first bus when i stepped off at the Harborside bus stop and saw an old friend that i hadn't seen since the second week of school. It made the rest of the day go by a little easier.
I am excited about what this blog may bring out in me and hope that you may get a chuckle from the stories about the comedy that is my life.
